For several years the organ at the back of the church has not been working properly and the parish has been using a new electronic organ. In early 2017 it was decided that is was time to remove the old organ and find it a new home.
Wendy kindly agreed to take on the project. The first step was to consult English Heritage because the church is a grade one listed building. So no change can be made with our permission. However, permission was granted because the organ where it is was not part of the original design of the church and its removal would open up access to the Great West Door and improve the view of the West window.
Finding a New Home for the Old Organ
The next step was finding a new home to the old organ. After exploring lots of options Wendy found an organ dealer who put her in touch with a Church in Slovakia who were looking for a new organ.
The next step was the hard work of dismantling the old organ and packing it carefully for shipping to Slovakia.
Restoring the West End of the Nave
The overall effect has been stunning, providing a space for after church coffee, and much-improved view of the West window and access to the West door for weddings and other special occasions. If you have not seen the restoration of the West Side of the end of the church do come and visit soon.
